Just because summer is technically over, that doesn’t mean that Tenerife in October is anything less than glorious. With reliable temperatures between 20C and 25C, it’s still very warm, even if you might not be sitting on a beach all day. As the high season for tourists dies down, Tenerife locals and residents can finally relax and enjoy a few months of quiet. That’s why October is a big month in Tenerife with a number of festivals, events, concerts and markets all over the island. So if you’re going to be in Tenerife in October 2017, here’s everything you might want to catch.
Tuesday and Sunday Market in Los Cristianos – every Tue and Sun
This market is quite amazing. It has everything. Delicious local foods and ingredients, antiques, ornaments, clothing, crafts, and arts; you’ll find it all, and more, every week. Los Cristianos itself is a lovely little town on the south east of the island. So make a day trip of it and explore this unique community. From 9am until 3pm.on Avenida Juan Carlos I
Feboda 2017 – 6th & 8th October
Held in the Recinto Ferial in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Feboda 2017 is a trade fair showcasing everything to do with weddings and general celebrations. A hugely popular and well-known annual event, it brings more than a hundred businesses to one place to display their products and services. For anybody planning a wedding in the near future, especially on Tenerife, this a must-do.
Trail Run Almendros y Volcanes de Santiago del Teide, 8th October
Something for the fitness fanatics out there, the 6th annual Trail Run Almendros y Volcanes de Santiago del Teide will be held on Sunday, 8 October, at 10am. It’s a cross-country run comprising of two distances, 30km and 15km, depending on how fit you’re feeling. The course is blessed by trailing through the famous almond and volcanic medianias, typical of the region.You have to sign up by 2nd October if you want to enter, and costs between 12 and 17 euros, depending on which course you want to run. You never know, you might even come home with a trophy.
Opera de Tenerife, starting 26th October
October sees the long anticipated start of Opera de Tenerife’s 2017/2018 programme. This year will see a focus on three works by Verdi, as well as Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Gounod’s Faust, and Mozart’s The Magic Flute. The three Verdi works will be Don Carlo, the incomparable Requiem, and the sublime La Traviata. All will be performed in the Santa Cruz auditorium. The exception is La Traviata, which will tour various venues across the island. The full programme is here.
Expoutlet Arona 2017, 28th & 29th October
Again in Los Cristianos, Expoutlet Arona is a fair based around the subject of shopping. Yep, that’s right. It’s two whole days where shopping is celebrated with all of the local shops and suppliers offering huge discounts on their goods; most of which is end of season stock. It’s held in the Recinto Ferial next to the sports pavilion.
