Top five golf courses in Tenerife

For those looking for a cheap holiday Tenerife holds plenty of attraction, not least of which is a wide selection of golf courses offering the perfect way to while away a few hours. Tenerife has no shortage of courses dotted all over the island, so here are just five of them to get you started. Golf Costa Adeje (Costa Adeje) Host to the Spanish Open and Tenerife Ladies Open, this championship course is one of the best golf courses Tenerife has to offer. It’s an 18-hole, par-7 course, built on terraced land that was once home to banana plantations. The breathtaking views make it hard to keep your mind on your game. If you can’t manage a full 18 holes, there’s a secondary 9-hole course (par 33) on slopes that lead down to La Caleta, a small fishing village. Goft Costa Adeje has a classic clubhouse complete with a bar and restaurant and terrace. Buggy and all equipment hire are available. Real Club de Golf Tenerife (Tacoronte) The second oldest golf club in Spain, behind the one in Grand Canaria, this is an 18-hole, par-71 course set in mature and luxurious landscaping of mature trees. The narrow fairways are more difficult than they look at first glance because being quite narrow, accurate driving is a must. You’ll find an informal restaurant on site along with a pro shop and driving range. Paddle tennis is also available if you’re not a golfer. Golf La Rosaleda (Puerto de la Cruz) Five minutes outside town you’ll find Golf La Rosaleda. A small course, just 9-holes that’s excellent for beginners or those wanting a short game. As with all courses in Tenerife, the surroundings of wonderful subtropical plants create an exotic atmosphere that compliments any game. Abama Golf (Guia de Isora) If you’re looking for something special in Golf, this is the course for you. Electric buggies with GPS, a golf academy and great club house, are just some of the things that set this course apart. For professional golfers, the large greens and wide tees present a challenge, and for the relaxed, casual golfer the subtropical flora along with waterfalls, streams and artificial lakes make for welcome distractions. The course is designed by renowned designer Dave Thomas. It’s a par-72 course with a breathtaking ocean view. Golf Del Sur (Golf del Sur) Another championship course, this one has hosted the PGA European Tours and The Shell World Golf Series. With 27 holes and three separate layouts (North, South and Links), there’s a challenge in store for everyone regardless of their skill level. All the courses finish at the club house. On site ate the bar/restaurant, pro shop, golf academy and equipment hire. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or a raw beginner, great flight and hotel prices mean that for a cheap holiday Tenerife has plenty of attractions on which to spend the extra cash you save on getting there.
